Villager Breeder

Villagers for trading halls, iron farms, crop farms, and village expansion

medium

Villagers breed on their own once two adults are both willing, meaning each is holding enough of a valid food item like bread, carrots, potatoes, or beetroot, and there's a free unclaimed bed nearby for the baby. A breeder is just a structure built to guarantee both conditions reliably instead of leaving it to chance in an open village.

Food is usually automated with a hopper feeding carrots or bread within reach, though tossing some in by hand periodically works fine for a smaller setup too. Villagers pick food up off the ground on their own and eventually go willing once they're carrying enough.

Spare beds are the real bottleneck resource here. Every successful breeding event needs a free bed for the baby to claim, so a working breeder always has more beds than adult villagers, and a lot of designs wall off a separate zone of extra beds specifically so babies claim those instead of accidentally re-triggering claims meant for adults.

Villagers can breed inside a real village too, so some people skip a dedicated structure and just keep an actual village well-fed with spare beds. But a portable, purpose-built breeder is a lot more useful when the goal is producing unemployed villagers you can cart over to a separate trading hall, since fresh babies have no profession yet and can be assigned whatever job site you want.

This is less a farm in the usual sense and more infrastructure. Its output is villagers themselves, which feed straight into other builds on this page: an iron farm needs three, a trading hall wants one of every profession, and any crop or animal farm benefits from a spare villager working it automatically.

We haven't filmed our own walkthrough for this one yet. Until we do, here's a live search for current video tutorials.
