Lunge
Launches you forward when you jab with a spear, spending hunger and an extra point of durability.
Is Lunge worth it?
Lunge launches you forward when you jab with a spear, at the cost of some hunger and an extra point of durability. It's a movement enchantment as much as a combat one.
The obvious use is closing distance. Getting onto a target that's backing away, or covering a gap quickly mid-fight, both work well, and it gives spears a mobility option that other melee weapons don't have.
The costs are worth taking seriously. Hunger drain means you need food on hand if you're using it repeatedly, and the extra durability point per use means the spear wears out faster than the same weapon without it.
Three levels are available. Since each use costs you resources, it's worth being deliberate about when you trigger it rather than treating it as a default attack.
Enchanting table cost by level
Lunge can be applied up to level 3, with higher levels needing a higher power roll to be offered at the enchanting table. This is the table's internal cost threshold for offering the enchantment, not the XP a player spends applying it.
